Is Phil Mickelson The Most Overrated Player In The History of Golf?

Well…at least in recent history?

I would not call him over rated…….maybe an underachiever. His faults in the past have been mostly between his ears…….He is a gifted player no doubt about it…….Plus he is the personification of a streak putter……when they are falling…no one beats him……when they don’t….a grade schooler would out putt him. No one knows why…..even he is baffled I am sure. His interview after todays debacle at the FBR even talks about his putting woes

Revered as the most prestigious tournament in golf, the Masters commands international attention, even among nongolfers. The first edition of The Masters: A Hole-by-Hole History of America's Golf Classic took the unique approach of tackling Augusta National hole by hole. Each hole had its own chapter, with colorful stories on the greatest shots, biggest disasters, and amazing events that took place on each. David Sowell returns to Augusta now with the second edition of The Masters, adding more history and updating each hole with additional stories of greatness and tales of woe. He addresses Tiger's continued dominance as well as how Phil Mickelson finally got over his majors hump in a major way. Sowell also discusses the changes that have been made to the course in an effort to make it more difficult and shows how those changes have affected play. The legends of the Masters are in full force in this unique and lively look at America's golf classic. From Bobby Jones and Gene Sarazen to Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, all the greatest Masters moments of the greatest golfers are here in one book. The Masters: A Hole-by-Hole History of America's Golf Classic, Second Edition provides a rich historical view of the course where success breeds legends and where failure can haunt even the most brilliant golfer's career.

"It's difficult to beat a good golf book, be it a good yarn or a picture book . . . The golf is spectacular, the course more so, the descriptions luminous."--USA Today"The untold story of golf's greatest money match, featuring Hogan and Nelson at Cypress Point, comes to life in . . . Mark Frost's gripping new book, The Match."--Golf magazine"Frost weaves an exceptional narrative . . . It's a gripping tale--as good as James Patterson, John Grisham, or any other contemporary novelist could create. And all true. The match comes down to the 18th hole, and you'll be the winner once you turn the last page."--Met Golfer"Frost masterfully puts the reader not just on the scene, but in the time, too, with terrific storytelling."--The State (South Carolina)"Frost captures an elusive magic in this improbable matchup and what it meant for those who played and witnessed it."--Publishers Weekly"The Match was a dream I never thought would come true. If I hadn't been there I wouldn't believe it myself, and if you know anything about sports or the game of golf, once you pick up this book you won't put it down. No one will ever see an event like this again. Fiction can't touch it."--Ken VenturiThe year: 1956. Four decades have passed since Eddie Lowery came to fame as the ten-year-old caddie to U.S. Open Champion Francis Ouimet. Now a wealthy car dealer and avid supporter of amateur golf, Lowery has just made a bet with fellow millionaire George Coleman. Lowery claims that two of his employees, amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi, cannot be beaten in a best-ball match. Lowery challenges Coleman to bring any two golfers of his choice to the course at 10 a.m. the next day to settle the issue.Coleman accepts the challenge and shows up with his own power team: Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the game's greatest living professionals, with fourteen major championships between them.In Mark Frost's peerless hands, complete with the recollections of all the participants, the story of this immortal foursome and the game they played that day--legendarily known in golf circles as the greatest private match ever played--comes to life with powerful, emotional impact and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Golf in Florida

Florida has depended on tourism since the earliest days of American ownership. Entrepreneurs, scoundrels, and visionaries flocked to the Sunshine State to take advantage of the natural resources–land, water, climate, natural beauty, flora, and fauna–to implement their schemes and dreams. The majority of these schemes depended on convincing individuals from northern states to invest in their projects or to vacation in the state. One of the attractions was golf. Every Florida resort of note included a golf course, and golf became the major attraction for winter visitors and part-time residents. This book provides a brief history of golf in Florida, focuses on the men who designed the courses, and provides a guide to the resorts that catered to the game.

Many golfers fail to realize that the harder they try, the harder golf gets. Worse, the better the golfer gets, the harder it is to improve. Golf cannot be conquered, and any attempt to take the game by force results only in frustration and utter defeat. However, with the proper attitude and preparation, golf can be outfoxed. Solving Golf Problems steers the novice or casual player around the hazards and clear of the rough. Drawing upon the game’s brightest minds, a vast library of golf writing, and a thorough grounding in the rich history of golf, Jim Apfelbaum has constructed a Poor Richard’s Almanac for the links–a credible source of unimpeachable wisdom and insight generously tempered with wry humor. Comprising chapters on the practical, thehistorical, the physical, the mental, the spiritual, and the secret, Solving Golf Problems makes no assumptions about the reader’s knowledge and assumes no limitation on the reader’s ability to outthink the game. Solving Golf Problems has everything anyone needs to enjoy the game of golf from the outset, while steadily improving skills and understanding.
